Michael Steiner
I am Professor of Economics at the University of Graz.
Economics explores the conditions for the prosperity of nations and regions - as an economist, I endeavour to increase this knowledge through my own research, to pass it on in teaching and to implement it in economic policy consulting.
My research interests include regional development, economic policy, technology and research policy, sports economics and aspects of economic change in space and time.

As a member of several economic associations, I am part of a broad international network with an intensive exchange of knowledge. As an expert and consultant, I have worked (and occasionally still do) for international organisations such as the World Bank, OECD, Council of Europe, for regional and national governments and European institutions as well as for private clients.
I am aware that not everything that makes economic sense is also right. The economy itself does not create meaning. Properly organised, however, it opens up spaces of freedom in which the challenge of turning freedom into meaning can succeed.
