Miriam Steurer PhD. is an Economist at the Institute of Economics at University of Graz, Austria. Since July 2019 she is also a member of the Computation Task Force for the international Comparisons Program of the World Bank. In the past Dr. Steurer has worked as a consultant for Eurostat advising National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) in the European Union on the construction of house price indices and the inclusion of owner-occupied housing in the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP). Before 2014 she was employed at the “Center for Economic and Innovation Research” at Joanneum-Research Graz, a large non-university research institute in Austria, at the “Center for Health Economics Research and Evaluation” at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, and as a lecturer in Economics at the University of New South Wales, Australia. She obtained her PhD in Economics from the University of New South Wales, Australia in 2008. She is currently engaged in a number of projects relating to the construction of automated valuation systems (using hedonic as well as Machine Learning techniques) and price indices in the housing sector.
